Like my opinion matters... Gloria's Little Italy (restaurant review)

Great restaurant to go to on a cold night earlier this week.  Gotta love how pix taken with the phone turn out... I look like a monster, but maybe I always look that way!  Who knows...

Loved the atmosphere of the restaurant.  Went with a bunch of girl friends and the waiter was appropriately engaging (was going to say "flirty" but he did make a point of telling us he was married...hmm.. wonder why he felt the need to clarify that...) to make it fun.  We even talked him into singing for us and he had a VOICE!  Beautiful...  He probably sings for everyone that asks.. but was smart enough to make us feel special and like he didn't always sing.

The menu had all sorts of yummy sounding options.  The gnocchi sounded good to me but I couldn't decide between a red sauce or a cream sauce.  Actually, what I wanted was a cream sauce with just a bit of a red sauce to mix in.  Somewhat strange that they charge $3.99 extra for that.  Not sure why... you would think that you could take a ladle of one sauce and pour half of it on the entree and then the other half back in the pan.  Then do the same with the second sauce.. But apparently once its in the ladle then it is unusable and so half is discarded and so there is an extra charge?  Luckily, my dilemma was solved when I noticed that there was a Salsa Rosada that was a mixture of both anyway..

Gnocchi are described as petite, potato pillows.  Try to say that fast 5 times...  In this case, I would call them petite potato pillows sent from heaven!  Kind of fluffy and the best that I have ever had.  Could only eat half of them and it was a struggle to eat that many because I got full so I took some home.  They were awesome the second night as well.

Shocked everyone by ordering a hot chocolate despite it being a PEPSI restaurant.  In my defense, it was a COLD night.... The waiter said he was told by a pastry chef that the best way to make hot chocolate was to mix the whipped cream in with the cocoa mix and water and then to put whipped cream on top.  Worked for me!  Yummy!

Everyone else's entree at the table also looked good.  Kim said that the lasagna was wonderful and could substitute for her previous favorite from Ottavio's which went out of business... so the restaurant was an unqualified success for everyone.  Maybe a bit on the pricey side if you consider $20/person (approx) to be pricey.

Despite being way too full to even consider dessert, we were told that it was at least worth walking by the dessert counter to see what was there.  I would agree.  Might even be worth walking in off of the street to see what is there.  Would probably have to come just for dessert in order to enjoy them but they looked really good!  And I noticed a biscotti flavored gelato which sounds like something I'll have to try sometime.

As far as a restaurant rating goes.... [drumroll]
How could a restaurant with petite potato pillows from heaven get less than  5 Stars?

  1. Glad you like it! I've eaten there twice and it's delicious and authentic. I've talked to Gloria and her family is from Pisa but she said she had to Americanize some dishes a little. Like the bread they bring you, in Tuscany, the bread doesn't have salt. I'm sucha know it all.
