Like my opinion matters... Tarahumara Comido Mexicano (restaurant review)

As we started planning a trip to Midway to see the Ice Castles, we wondered if there would be any good restaurants there (it is a small, but very quaint, town) or whether we would have to drive to the booming metropolises of Park City or Heber for dinner.  Luckily, while checking on-line, I saw some reviews of a Mexican restaurant in Midway and the reviews were excellent.

Didn't look closely at the address since Midway just isn't that big and I thought it would be in the Town Square/Center of Town area.  It isn't... but it isn't far and after driving around we found it on the main street (don't know if it IS Main Street, but it looks like the main road) a little east of town.

Since we were first time visitors, we broke the rules and headed to the back following the signs that said dining room.  Caught by the restaurant police, we were directed to order at the front counter and then the food would be delivered to us in the dining room.  I say restaurant police but it is mainly creative license to tell the story...  Everyone was actually extremely nice.

The next part is a  little "educational" section, lifted right from the restaurant website.  Ignore it if you must...

The Tarahumara are the native people of Chihuahua, Mexico, living in and around the Copper Canyon.  The people are famous for their long distance running and their honesty.

Tarahumara features foods primarily from Northern Mexico, including:  Appetizers, Tacos, Burritos, Fajitas, Tortas, Salads, Soups, Enchiladas, Tamales, and Chiles Rellenos.  Specialty items include Char-broiled Carne Asada, Pork Ribs, and Wild White Mexican Shrimp sauteed with Tequila  and Orange Sauce.  Everything sounded good on the menu so I asked the guy at the counter what the most popular items were.... turns out, he pretty much named off everything and so wasn't a whole lot of help at all!

Since you could mix or match the taco plate, I ordered that with a Carne Asada, a Mahi-Mahi, and a Shrimp Taco knowing that I would end up taking a lot of it home...  gotta hate that!  The taco plate had tacos made with soft corn tortillas, a salad on the side, and a  small basket of chips.  Good thing for the chips--because when you head to the dining room (this time we weren't stopped since we weren't blatantly breaking the rules)---  there is a fresh salsa bar with over 20 different kinds of salsas.   I only tried two of them, one was a Chipotle Crema which looked smooth and almost cheesy but had quite a kick to it.  The second was milder and had Ranch Dressing as a base and you can't ever go wrong dipping something in Ranch Dressing.

With my new and improved stomach size, and "delicate like a flower" appetite (ha ha, haven't ever said THAT about myself before)-- the chips and salsa pretty much filled me up although I did eat all of the shrimp out of one of the tacos.  Yum!!  And best of all, I now have a salad that I can add some chicken to and make a main dish, and 2 tacos to eat as leftovers.  That's four meals out of a dinner costing about $12.99.  Such a good shopper and I am definitely saving on my grocery and eating-out bills!   Most of the items were in the under-$15 range and many under $10 if you plan to go there and were wondering.

Didn't notice on the way in (probably because I was flaunting the rules and that takes all my attention), but on the way out I noticed a nice bakery showcasing Flans, Cheesecakes, Tres Leches Cake, Donuts, Conchas, Mexican Cookies and other pastries, all made fresh daily!  The Tres Leches Cake looked awesome.. although I didn't try it.  Just looking at it and imagining what it must taste like was enough... Not really, but that's what I told myself so that I would walk on by...

So... how would I rate Tarahumara?  Definitely- 5 Stars!  I would make a trip to Midway just to visit this restaurant again because there is so little time and so many salsas to try...
