Like my opinion matters.... Market Street Grill and Oyster Bar (restaurant review)

Technology is great.  On our way up to the play, we saw a billboard for the Halibut Festival at Market Street Grill.  Checking my phone, I saw there was one in South Jordan and using the GPS we were able to easily find it on our way home!  Funny that we went there when I had a gift card for a sushi place where we could have eaten for next to nothing...  Flexibility is important though and the sushi place can wait for another time.  Market Street Grill is not a new restaurant (and I tend to like to review new restaurants) but I haven't been there for a long time and haven't ever been to the one at this location.

Interestingly enough, Market Street Grill is a seafood restaurant and once we went inside all my pictures look like they were taken underwater...  That's ambiance for you... Might be time to clean off the camera lens on my phone-- not sure what might have gotten on it, but these pictures are pretty bad!

See what I mean.. underwater food.  The special menu with halibut entrees looked really good and I almost ordered halibut stuffed with crab cakes.  Sounds good, doesn't it?  Then, we noticed an early bird special for $19.99 that included soup or salad, your choice of 3 entrees (one of which was halibut), either rice/french fries/or parsley new potatoes, and either ice cream or a cupcake for dessert.

I tried the clam chowder, but I'm not sure that this clam chowder ever saw a clam or was cooked anywhere in the proximity of  a clam.  I know there weren't any clams in my bowl.  The soup was good, but it should have been called cream of leek soup or cream of potato and leek soup.  Now the halibut more than made up for the soup.  It looked like halibut, tasted like halibut, and I think it really was halibut... Nice size piece of fish that was cooked perfectly-- broiled with that golden crust on the outside and a flaky inside.  Yum!

A little something sweet after dinner is always appreciated.  My cupcake came out with a fork and the waitress said that they are served that way but you didn't have to use the fork...  Good thing, because I guess I'm just not that cultured.  Isn't that the joy of cupcakes that you can just pick them up and go for it?

For those that don't get the early bird special, there is a counter full of other desserts that looked pretty yummy!

With the exception of the soup not being at all clam-like, Market Street Grill is a nice restaurant and the early bird special was a great deal.  Be careful though if you take your camera into the restaurant--I'm hoping that mine recovers from the cloudiness.
I'm a seafood lover, and Market Street Grill is kind of a splurge and I consider it one of the better seafood restaurants in the area.  I would give it a 3+ rating.  (***+)

  1. Jake works right across at Neumont University.

We love to go to MSG at least once or twice a year. We are always pleased with the dishes.

I think you may have had an off night with the clam chowder. It's generally one of the best I've had because of it's clammy goodness. I like to try the clam chowder at most restaurants.

On a side note, I have a a community blog (http://pleasantspringsvillage.blogspot.com/) and some of my readers have requested restaurant reviews. Would you mind being a link on my blog? Most of my readers have children, some may want to know if a place is family friendly or more appropriate for date night. Let me know.

  2. I have always heard great things about Market Street Grill! Jeremiah said that you should review "Rubio's". I think it is by Smashburger in Orem!
