I am not a farm girl-- not by any stretch of the imagination-- and am a little perplexed by several friends who want to have chickens, goats, and other critters running around their back yards. More power to them but not really my cup of tea, Still, I jumped at the chance to go with a friend and her son to Farm Country on Monday night. First, it's always nice to visit with friends... and second, I haven't had a chance to practice taking pictures of children since taking a photography workshop in March. I thought that Thanksgiving Point would be a great place to practice taking pictures, but it was far more difficult than I thought. Maybe if we had gone up there with a primary goal of taking pictures then it would have been easier. But, we really went to see the animals and so it was a challenge to frame a picture without distracting background objects, get eye contact and heads pointing in the right direction, etc. Still, it was fun to try and I did get a few pictures that I like.
Ethan, the son of my friends Anne and Scott, is 4-1/2 and an incredibly good sport. He has been going out to dinner with us on a regular basis since he was a baby and has always been a delight to be around-- smart, very verbal, funny... He knows what he wants and can communicate that and has been ordering for himself in restaurants since he was about 2. Yesterday, after losing his order at a hamburger place, the server brought his burger out and said that they had put cheese on it by mistake and asked if that was ok. Very politely, Ethan told him that he liked cheese but not on hamburgers and would prefer a plain hamburger. And that's what he got... He is an amazing kid! (Of course I think that about most of my friend's children...)
Love this picture. He was goofing around, but it looks like a great response to being followed around by paparazzi and having your picture taken one too many times!
My other favorite picture of the day... I call it "Angst". Some days are just like this...
