Like my opinion matters... Letters to Juliet (movie review)

Perfect day for a movie today-- weather being fickle and not sure whether it was going to be a sunny day or a rainy day--so we went to see Letters to Juliet at the Stadium Cinemas in Payson.  If the weather was unpredictable, the movie definitely wasn't but it was such a sweet kind of predictable that I really enjoyed it.  Sometimes you just want to see a good chick flick and Letters to Juliet is definitely that.

Basic plot summary-  girl and boy go to Verona for a pre-wedding honeymoon.  Boy is preoccupied with his work and doesn't pay any attention to his fiance.  Girl gets involved in a romantic quest to help an older woman find the love of her life that got away fifty years ago.  Older woman's grandson disapproves of the whole romantic quest and he and the girl initially don't like each other and fight a lot.  Things change between the grandson and the girl and they (surprise!) fall in love with each other although they part from each other anyway and then both are unhappy until they meet again at the wedding of the older woman and her Lorenzo...  Sigh...  Hope I didn't spoil the plot for you, but it isn't the sort of plot where you sit on the edge of your seat and wonder what will happen next anyway.

Amanda Seyfried is a cutie, although be aware that she tends to break off engagements (remember Mamma Mia) so if you meet her and fall in love-- be careful!
Christopher Egan is delightfully British and crusty at first but he softens and does a good job as the male lead.

Vanessa Redgrave is warm and engaging, and I really found myself rooting for her to find her long lost love.  One of the highlights of the movie was seeing Italy-- both the Tuscan countryside and the city of Verona.  Beautiful!  Makes me want to ride horses through hills covered with grape vineyards and olive trees.  I give the movie a 3 star rating--thoroughly enjoyable and you get exactly what you hope for and expect.

  1. This looks like a cute movie. I've been wondering if it is any good. Have you seen "Young Victoria" yet?
