Like my opinion matters... Ahh Sushi! (restaurant review)

Like sushi?  Not sure whether you like sushi or not?  If you want the best sushi in Utah, then my recommendation is that you go to ahh sushi! restaurant in Salt Lake City (22 East 100 South).  Anyone able to guess yet what my star rating will end up being??  I know, subtle clues.  Because the restaurant is located inside of a bar (the O'Shucks Bar and Grill), it used to be more difficult to go to because you needed a private club membership or at least a friend with a private club membership.  That isn't necessary anymore, and the restaurant side is way more pleasant since there is no smoking in the bar anymore either.  Happy Hour is held before 6:00 and you can get rolls at 1/2 price.  I thought they were open all afternoon and we got there at 4:20 and then had to wait in the bar area until 5:00 for the restaurant to open.  They are pretty strict about that too-- we were seated in the restaurant at 3 minutes before 5:00 and the waitress told us we had to wait the three minutes to place an order...  Gave us time to look over the menu and change what we planned to order several times.

If you go there, make sure that you order the Imperial Shrimp (tempura baked prawns in a spicy sauce) as an appetizer.  It is the best!  Be aware though that the red sauce on the neck of the serving plate is HOT. Will warm you to the bottoms of your toes...  I popped it into my mouth and then realized that I hadn't eaten anything that spicy since my ulcer and wasn't sure how that would end up feeling.  Luckily, I was fine and the sauce that comes on the shrimp itself also has a nice kick to it.  We thought we would have to pay full price for the appetizer and were pleasantly surprised when that was 1/2 price too.

So what rolls did we get..?  Good question since we changed our minds several times.  I believe that we got the Sunset Roll, the Jazz Pick n Roll, and the Playboy roll.  Each one of them was mouth watering...
Loved that the Jazz Pick n Roll had the lemon on the top.  We hadn't tried that one before and thought it was really pretty and had a nice flavor (crab and cucumber, wrapped with eel and avocado). Yum!!  I've always been a fan of the Playboy roll...  Don't think we have ever forgotten to order that one.  The tempura shrimp sticking out of the ends of the roll are wonderful.  Every time we have gone, the fish and other ingredients have always been fresh and tasty.  Best thing was my surprise when we got the bill.  I was expecting to pay about $30 apiece, and it was only a little over $30 total, for two.  ahh sushi! has a location in Park City as well but I haven't tried that one.  Seems like a trip to Park City may be in order in the near future.  Bon appetit!

Almost forgot.. giving my rating...  This is the kind of place that I dream about going back to-- so I give it
5 Stars .   (*****)
