What happens when you identify every hot actor/ actress in Hollywood, develop a plot for each of them, and then put it all together in one movie? You get a longer movie than it needs to be... Not that the movie wasn't good. I enjoyed it, but midway thru I did start to consider what I would do if it just never ended... I remember when the norm for movies moved from 2 hours to 90 minutes, and I thought that was pretty cheap. Now, I've become used to 90 minute movies and a movie longer than that needs to be really good! Look at the star power in this movie though-- it would have been a difficult job to eliminate stars of that caliber who were willing to be in it... How would you turn down a Jennifer Garner or Ashton Kutcher or McDreamy, or Taylor/Taylor, or Queen Latifah (and I know I'm probably omitting some of the MOST famous people in the show).. or any of the others in this movie?
Young girls will be thrilled that Taylor (Jacob in New Moon) got an opportunity to take his shirt off again.
I believe that he has found his niche! I did enjoy seeing all the different love stories from various ages and walks of life. Two of my favorites were the Emma Roberts/Taylor story where they had planned a lunchtime rendez-vous (first time for both of them) that got unexpectedly interrupted. An awkward moment for sure! Thank goodness for strategically placed guitars... Given some time, they decided to wait and recognized that having sex before they were ready wouldn't necessarily be the thing that would cement their relationship when they both went off to different colleges.
My second favorite sub-plot was the little kid--already a hopeless romantic. Sweet kid and sweet plot.
Had to laugh at the "I Hate Valentine's Day" party-- definitely a scene from my own life. Poor pinata.. I'm making a note that the girl that threw the party ended up with a date. Maybe everyone I know, including myself, will throw similar parties next year to see if art imitates life. By the way, it would be considered bad form in many circles for the host throwing an "I Hate Valentine's Day" party to show up with a date...
I had heard that there were some scenes that some people found objectionable. If you go, be prepared for Anne Hathaway and her job as an "Adult Phone Entertainer"...
Overall, even though it could have been shortened a little, I liked many of the romantic stories and subplots in the movie. Not at all depressing--even for a Valentine's Day movie!
