I ordered the blue plate special which was your typical Sunday dinner of pot roast, carrots, onions, potatoes served with mashed potatoes. Very tasty! For only about $9.00, it was a bargain and a lot of food. Kim ordered the halibut and it looked pretty yummy too. And you can't ever go wrong with the Magleby's muffins-- cooked perfectly, soft on the inside and a cheesy crust on the outside. Anyone else remember when you could buy the muffins at a counter in University Mall? I'm probably showing my age but I hadn't even thought about that in years and blogging is such a stream of consciousness activity that if the thought pops in my head, it likely will become part of what I write...
The dining room is large and uncarpeted, so it is quite noisy. Was difficult to hear the waitress at times but the overall atmosphere is very classy.
Besides the muffins, Magleby's has the BEST chocolate cake in the valley. And we have gone on a quest to really check that out. Doesn't matter whether you get it at the restaurant or at Magleby's Fresh-- it is almost always wonderful! Because it was Valentine's Day, they displayed several single layer cakes (probably serving about 6) in to-go boxes in the display case at the front of the restaurant all tied up with pretty ribbons. I got just one piece to go and it was a multi-layer slice cut from one of these slightly lopsided (but obviously home made) cakes that were displayed on top of the counter. Had to sneak a bite or two before leaving and it was pretty awesome. Can't think of another place where the chocolate cake even comes close... most of them are way too rich or fancy (think "Death by Chocolate") and aren't just your everyday yummy chocolate cake.
The best thing of all is that there is now a classy restaurant in Springville (located at the corner of Main Street and 200 South). Not that I have anything against the other Springville restaurants.. I certainly frequent Cracker Barrel, the Art City Trolley, and Mongolian BBQ (among others), but Magleby's is a step above!
As for a rating...
I would give it 4 stars- Plus. Definitely worth going to and worth coming back to.. but falls just short of being one that I will dream about... ****+

now that I see the pictures, now I know where it is, I'd recognize that stain glass anywhere. That is Ryan's old studio, he was on the 3rd floor.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure if they were open yet. Now I know. I love your reviews Lisa. I've put many of your recommendations on my list of places to go. Your opinion matters to me!
