I read about The Chocolate after a friend became a fan of the page on Facebook. After checking out the website, it looked so good that I wanted to check it out and what better time for something sweet than Easter time. Located in what looks like an older house at 212 S. State Street in Orem, The Chocolate sells custom cakes and desserts as well as cupcakes/cookies/brownies/mini-cupcakes.
There is a bundt cake store in So. Jordan, SLC that I have been to occasionally for special occasions (like being up in SLC, for example) so it was nice to hear about something closer. Not that I go to bakeries all that often, although if you read the blog or look at me, you would think that I do. Still, it's nice to know of good places if you ever need one. Everything in the display case looked really tempting and they had some special items for Easter. I bought a sugar cookie and a cupcake to try (maybe more than that, but that's all that I'm admitting to publicly) and brought them home.
I'm glad that I took pictures in the store where everything looked so good, because the first thing I did when I got home was to drop the box on the floor right when I walked in the door! Graceful, I know...
I tried one of the sugar cookies, which was still whole but had a mixture of frosting on it from the fall, and it was really good. Soft, very fresh, with frosting sweet enough to put you on a sugar buzz or into a sugar coma immediately. Very good. I would give The Chocolate a 4+ Star Rating on my rating scale. Nice having a good bakery that's closer than Salt Lake.
Custom cakes start at about $38. Gourmet cupcakes are $2.25 each or $25/dozen. Babycakes (mini cupcakes) are $12/dozen and cookies are $1.29. Try this place out if you are craving a treat and up in the Orem area. Hours are 11:00 am to 10:00 pm on weekdays and 11:00 am to 11:00 pm on weekends.

The Chocolate sounds great! I've got to go by there and get me some. I have a special request for your blog.... How about keeping a running list of the places you review and their ratings so one could say, "Hey, I'm thinking Italian tonight, let's find one of Lisa's reviews" and then we could just click on that category, see the rating, re-read the review and make our picks. What do you think? I have no idea how to do that little trick though, so I couldn't help you out with that :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so gonna have to stop there.
ReplyDeleteOh, I like her idea. Use labels: Italian, 4 star.
Have you tried Dippidee, http://dippidee.com/, in American Fork? Not as close as Chocolate, but certainly closer than SLC.
FOr Sheia's idea, label each post with "italian" "dinner", etc.
ReplyDeleteI have a hard time over paying for pastries, but I still want to give it a try. Do you like Provo Bakery? delish.
Ok, feeling a bit dorky. I came back this morning to check to see if my comment showed up, and either you created the side bar thing already, or I completely missed it last night when I was checking!
