I've been re-reading the book this week to prepare for the movie and got a little over half way and so didn't quite make it. A lady in line said that she started the book yesterday and finished it at 5:30 this morning.. now thats dedication... I'd fall asleep during the movie if I did that-- which happens a lot anyways. Generally the better the movie, the quicker I fall asleep. Going to movies is more of a pre-screen to see if I should put them on my Netflix list rather than an opportunity to enjoy them in their full cinematic glory. However, this movie was the exception. I really liked it AND I was awake during the entire thing!
Despite enjoying the movie, I think it should be recast for big girls... well, not for BIG girls, but for grown up girls. I'm thinking of George Clooney as Edward...
Team Edward
and
Antonio Banderas as Jacob...
Team Jacob
Now that would get my heart going... Not that the leads in the movie weren't good. I thought the movie was very well done--better than the first! And who could argue that the young Jacob from Twilight looks pretty darn ripped in New Moon? There was an audible gasp in the theater when Jacob took his shirt off for the first time (I might be wrong... but possibly even from the 4 or 5 men in the theater). And after that, you didn't really see the La Push gang with their shirts on again.. I think if I was a tweeny-bopper girl, I would immediately switch my allegiance to Team Jacob.
Too bad that Colin Firth doesn't seem like either the vampire type or the werewolf type. It's a shame not to be able to cast him in this movie. Maybe as the dad--and that's a sad indicator that I am getting old since my favorite actor would be cast as the dad.

Team Charlie?
My favorite line from the movie:
Jacob "You're about to cross the line"
Bella "Then don't draw one"
So many conflicts and struggles could be avoided by just not drawing the line if it really doesn't really need to be drawn.
As far as a star rating for New Moon. I would give it: 4 stars ****

I love your suggestion for the new actors for Big girls! I've been on Team Jacob even before there was a movie. I would much rather be with a hot, hairy, warm blooded guy than make out with an icy lipped, cold-skinned, hard, skinny thing. Antonio Banderas would be an ideal Jacob.
ReplyDeleteit's good to read your review, because yours is an opinion I trust. I'm surprised at how many people I have heard that rented a theatre. Didn't know you could do that. Hopefully I'll see it soon, I feel obligated to see it with the in-laws. If they're lucky.
